Bucket Elevator

In many food and snack production environments, products must move vertically between processing and packaging stages from bulk holding bins up to weighers, or from ground-level conveyors into filling machines. The ADM‑Bucket Elevator is engineered for this exact purpose, ensuring gentle, dust-free, and space-efficient product transfer with full integration into ADM’s turnkey packaging systems.

Typically installed after a storage hopper or vibratory feeder, the bucket elevator vertically lifts product—like cereal, snacks, or grains into the infeed of a multihead weigher, auger filler, or pouch machine. This maintains a constant supply of free-flowing material, keeps your filling equipment primed, and reduces manual handling or transfer issues.

Because ADM designs and supplies the full line including conveyors, weighers, sealers, and case packers—the elevator is custom-sized and timed for maximum output and minimum waste.

The ADM‑Bucket Elevator is a vertical, continuous-lift conveying system designed to transport dry, free-flowing products upward between different processing or packaging levels. It uses a series of deep, evenly spaced moulded polymer or stainless-steel buckets, attached to a heavy-duty belt or chain, to scoop product from a low infeed point and gently discharge it at a higher elevation.

Each elevator is custom-built to suit your plant layout and product characteristics. The unit’s enclosed frame design helps contain dust, maintain hygiene, and protect the product from external contamination—making it ideal for food, snack, grain, and pet food environments.

Unlike pneumatic or vibratory conveying, the bucket elevator lifts product with minimal agitation or drop impact, reducing the risk of breakage in fragile items like cereal flakes, puffed snacks, or coated nuts.

The discharge point is engineered for smooth, controlled unloading into ADM multihead weighers, auger fillers, or vibratory conveyors, and can be designed with a single or multiple outlet configuration, depending on the line setup.

For cleaning and maintenance, access panels are included along the casing, and optional easy-disassembly features are available for allergen-sensitive or multi-product lines.

The ADM‑Bucket Elevator is ideal for moving:

Detailed Application Example: Dry Breakfast Cereal

In a high-speed cereal packaging line, dry flakes or puffs must be transported from a blending or storage bin to a multihead weigher without damage, spillage, or inconsistent flow. Fragile products like cornflakes or puffed wheat are particularly vulnerable to crumbling under vibration or excessive drop heights.

Here, the ADM‑Bucket Elevator is positioned between the holding hopper and the ADM multihead weigher. It gently lifts the cereal in spaced, food-grade buckets to the desired height, then discharges it cleanly into the weighing system.

This ensures:

  • Consistent head pressure for weighing accuracy
  • Minimal product breakage or crumbling
  • Fully enclosed transport to reduce dust and contamination
  • Higher throughput with reduced giveaway

The system integrates seamlessly with the downstream ADM VFFS or pouch machines, providing a smooth vertical transition between production stages without relying on operator handling or multiple horizontal transfers.
